This is an original lithographic poster for Zbrojovka Strakonic motorcycles, designed by Anton Erhardt in 1936. Zbrojovka Strakonic (CZ) represents a pivotal moment in Czechoslovak industrial history. Production of motor-driven bicycles began in 1932, and by 1935, the company’s first true motorcycles entered the market. Within a short time, CZ became the largest motorcycle manufacturer in Czechoslovakia, a position of significant prestige and technical achievement. This poster captures the company at the height of its pre-war confidence—right in that golden window before 1946 nationalization and the 1948 merger with rival Jawa. The motorcycle depicted may be a CZ 250 Tourist or CZ 500, models that defined the brand’s reputation for engineering excellence.
Anton Erhardt (1899–1961) was a skilled Czech graphic designer working during the peak of Art Deco influence in Central Europe.
