“Khartoum” is a 1966 film written by Robert Ardrey and directed by Basil Dearden. It stars Charlton Heston as General Gordon and Laurence Olivier as the Mahdi (Muhammad Ahmed), based on Gordon’s defense of the Sudanese city of Khartoum from the forces of the Mahdist army during the Siege of Khartoum (1884–1885).
The poster art and text reflect the 1960s style presentation of the film, featuring the main cast names and the title branding “Khartoum,” along with “THE GREAT ADVENTURE BEGINS!” and “WHERE THE NILE DIVIDES,” as shown on the poster.
