Original vintage airline poster: FLY PSA – “For a Song” featuring the lyric “How’ ya gonna keep ’em down on the ground…”. This colorful Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) poster showcases a bold flower‑power psychedelic design celebrating California travel.
The artwork surrounds the central illustration with vibrant medallions representing major California destinations served by PSA, including San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, Ontario, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Hollywood‑Burbank, and Oakland. A cheerful PSA airplane smiles at the viewer while playful figures in bright red outfits dance across the center of the design, capturing the energetic spirit of 1960s California.
The poster is presumed to be designed by Sally Reeder, whose name appears in the lower right corner. Little documentation exists about the artist, which adds to the poster’s intrigue and rarity.
Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) became one of the most successful regional airlines in American aviation history. Founder Kenny Friedkin launched the airline in 1949 with a single leased DC‑3 and built it into a major California carrier that transported millions of passengers annually. PSA operated from 1949 until 1988 and remains remembered for its friendly branding and iconic smiling airplanes.
A small museum exhibit honoring the airline appears at the San Diego Air and Space Museum, where PSA memorabilia and history are preserved.
