Description
This extraordinary original lithograph depicts the Queen of Arabia traveling to King Solomon, rendered in the classical Dala painting style. Created in 1826, this work is by Snarf Anders Andersson (1795–1850), a master of Swedish folk art from Ullvi, Leksand. The painting features the rustic design and gentle figures characteristic of 17th- and 18th-century Swedish painting traditions. Signed with the initials AES, this remarkable piece was uncovered during the restoration of a historic Swedish farmhouse, hidden beneath layers of wallpaper for generations. It was part of a collection of eight Dala paintings discovered covering the walls of a single room—five by Anders Andersson and three by Iwares of Rättvik. This is one of the most significant works from that discovery.
