Paul Gustave Mohr — French Avant-Garde Pioneer
Paul Gustave Mohr (1890–1959) was a visionary French avant-garde poster designer whose career spanned the Art Deco era’s most creative period (1920–1940). Born in Ham, France, Mohr attended the Sorbonne University and several prestigious art schools. A decorated WWI pilot (1914–1917), he brought a unique perspective to design. Based in Paris and later Asnières, Mohr created iconic advertising campaigns for major brands including Wonder cycles, Dainty cycles, Banania sugar, Dubonnet wine, and countless others. His work defined the visual language of French commercial art during the interwar period.
An Extremely Rare Survivor
Paul Mohr posters are extraordinarily elusive. Many of his original designs exist in only one known surviving copy, making each piece a priceless artifact of Art Deco history. This original poster is archival, linen-backed, in Grade A condition, with no stains, tears, or paper loss—a remarkable testament to its preservation and care.
