Description
Halo Freedom — Rick Griffin’s 1966 original poster is a first-printing tribute to the spirit of the Haight Ashbury era, created as a benefit for the Haight Ashbury Legal Organization, framed by the promise of “Freedom.” The poster’s visual language leans into an intentionally aged, distressed-photograph feel while maintaining a very fine, collectible presentation—no pinholes, no bent corners, and described as excellent/mint.
Set as a major Winterland San Francisco event on Tuesday, May 30, 1966, the lineup is boldly presented as a gathering of landmark Bay Area names: The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane / Janis Joplin with Big Brother & the Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and The Charlatans. The poster is also referenced in The Art of Rock 2 (2-206), further anchoring its documented place within Griffin’s wider rock poster work—alongside Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse.
