Description

These Are Unfashionable… Near Running Machinery – Original WWII British Safety Poster

“These Are Unfashionable… Near Running Machinery” is a rare original British World War II factory safety poster issued by the Ministry of Labour and National Service and produced by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), London. Printed by Loxley Bros. Ltd., the poster dates to the WWII era when safety campaigns were widely promoted in British factories to prevent workplace injuries.

The striking design illustrates clothing and accessories considered dangerous around industrial equipment, including a loose blouse, a necktie, jewelry, a scarf, and high‑heeled shoes. Set against a background of factory machinery diagrams, the poster warns workers that fashionable items such as loose clothing or dangling accessories can easily become caught in running machinery, creating serious hazards on the factory floor.

Safety posters like this were widely displayed during the Second World War to encourage safer working conditions and help maintain wartime production by reducing accidents in industrial workplaces.

This example is an original lithograph vintage poster that has been professionally linen-backed and is presented in excellent condition, ready for framing.
