Description
“United We Serve” is an original World War I United War Work Campaign poster promoting a joint fundraising effort by several major American service organizations during the war’s final year.
The poster highlights the participation of leading wartime support groups, including the Y.M.C.A., Y.W.C.A., National Catholic War Council (Knights of Columbus), Jewish Welfare Board, War Camp Community Service, American Library Association, and the Salvation Army. Together these organizations raised funds to support American soldiers through recreation centers, libraries, religious services, and welfare programs both at home and overseas.
The campaign sought to raise $170,500,000, an enormous sum at the time, to support the morale and welfare of U.S. troops during World War I. Posters like this one encouraged civilians to contribute to the national fundraising drive that united multiple religious and social organizations in support of the war effort.
