Les Pays du Soleil – La Samaritaine
Original vintage French advertising poster for La Samaritaine, the famous Paris department store. Titled “Les Pays du Soleil” (The Lands of the Sun), the design promotes travel and Mediterranean culture, featuring the countries Italie, Grèce, Portugal, and Espagne arranged around the border of the composition.
The poster is strikingly modern in style, with a vibrant geometric sunburst radiating from the center against a warm yellow background. Within the central medallion appear symbolic figures associated with Mediterranean regions, including classical and mythological motifs such as the Roman she‑wolf with Romulus and Remus, a bull, and other traditional emblems.
Printed around 1960, this poster reflects the bold graphic language of mid‑century French design and the promotional campaigns of La Samaritaine, one of Paris’s most celebrated department stores located near the Pont Neuf.
