Description

The Saturday Evening Post Newsstand Poster, March 16, 1940 – Albert W. Hampson

Original American newsstand advertising poster for The Saturday Evening Post, dated March 16, 1940, featuring the cover illustration “St. Paddy Cake for Policemen” by Albert W. Hampson (1911–1990). Issued by the Curtis Publishing Company for display at newsstands, this large-format poster depicts a baker decorating a heart-shaped cake inscribed for a local police precinct, rendered with the gentle humor and narrative clarity characteristic of mid-century American illustration. Printed in offset lithography and archivally linen-backed, the poster is presented in excellent condition, with strong color and minimal wear, and no restoration. As a surviving example of pre-war magazine advertising, it reflects the cultural prominence of illustrated periodicals and seasonal themes in American visual culture.
