Description
High Mass by Bob Fried is a visually witty, counterculture-leaning concert/poster design built around a central tomb silhouette, surrounded by lush decorative structure and vivid, theatrical color. Marijuana leaves form the outlining language across the composition, turning a traditional, iconographic subject into a deliberately humorous, late-60s underground statement.
The poster’s lower banners read “8:30 p.m. Tues, thru Sat….” and “Purple Onion Two 435 Broadway St.”, with “HP Arts Opens November 15th.” The work is also documented in museum and reference sources, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (Museum no. E.542-2004) and The Art of Rock (2.368), underscoring its place within documented rock-era graphic ephemera.
