Description

A. M. Cassandre, With You … Everywhere, 1937

A masterwork of Art Deco elegance and modernist ingenuity, this exceptional gravure print from Fortune Magazine’s 1937 series showcases A. M. Cassandre at the pinnacle of his creative vision. The composition presents a woman’s profile seamlessly integrated into the form of a telephone handset—a brilliant visual metaphor for connection, intimacy, and the transformative power of technology. Her face emerges from the mouthpiece, suggesting communication made personal and immediate, while the handset itself becomes an extension of human presence. The design floats against a luminous sky of soft blues and warm tones, with distant mountains anchoring the composition. Every element serves the central concept: technology that brings the human voice—and by extension, human presence—everywhere, instantaneously.

This is an unpublished project design—one of only four poster concepts Cassandre created for Fortune Magazine in 1937. These designs were never mass-produced and exist as extraordinary artifacts of one of the twentieth century’s most visionary designers. The telephone poster exemplifies Cassandre’s genius for distilling complex ideas into elegant, memorable forms. His ability to merge human imagery with industrial design created a vocabulary that defined the modern age itself.
