The image shows Maurice Chevalier dressed in a black bow tie and slanted-brimmed straw hat against a sky-blue background. His distinctive smiling face became instantly recognizable. Kiffer designed 13 posters for Chevalier between 1927 and 1963. He also created designs for Josephine Baker and Edith Piaf. Today, this Alhambra Theatre version remains rare among collectors.

The Alhambra was a famous music hall in Paris’s 11th arrondissement at 50 rue de Malte. It opened on August 11, 1866, and became one of Paris’s most prestigious entertainment venues.
