Description
Liv för Liv (Life for Life), Swedish one sheet, 1921, directed by Gerhard Lamprecht
Original Swedish one-sheet poster for Liv för Liv (Life for Life), a 1921 silent “tendency film” in six acts directed by Gerhard Lamprecht. Produced during the silent film era, a period from which comparatively few posters survive due to their ephemeral use and low survival rate, this example reflects both the social engagement and graphic modernity of early 1920s cinema. The imagery presents a stylized, elongated male figure in profile, rendered with angular contours and restrained color against a vivid green ground, indicative of emerging Art Deco influences within Scandinavian poster design. The lower text references contemporary debate surrounding the abolition of the death penalty, situating the film within broader cultural and political discourse of the period. Printed using period lithographic processes typical of Swedish production, the poster demonstrates strong line work and flat color application characteristic of stone lithography. Printer not identified. Presented on archival linen backing, the poster is in very good condition, with expected signs of age including prior fold marks and careful restoration.
