The Saturday Evening Post Newsstand Poster, November 4, 1939 – Norman Rockwell
Original American newsstand advertising poster for The Saturday Evening Post, dated November 4, 1939, featuring a cover illustration by Norman Rockwell (1894–1978). Issued by the Curtis Publishing Company, this large-format poster was produced to promote the weekly magazine at newsstands nationwide and reproduces Rockwell’s narrative scene of a seated county sheriff, visibly moved as a young prisoner plays a harmonica, with a dog resting at his feet—an evocative example of the artist’s storytelling and depiction of small-town American life. Printed via offset lithography and archivally linen-backed, the poster is presented in excellent condition, never folded and without restoration, preserving strong color and clarity. This work reflects Rockwell’s enduring contribution to American illustration during his long association with the magazine.
