BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) was a British airline owned by the British government. It was founded in 1939 after the merger of Imperial Airways and British Airways Ltd. During WWII, BOAC kept Britain connected with its colonies and the Allied world. The airline operated flights to many destinations around the world; its first flight to Hong Kong took place in 1936. The airline operated overseas until 1974, when it was merged with BEA (British European Airways), which evolved into today’s British Airways.
