Description
Bière Champigneulles antique poster (Paul Mohr) — circa 1925 is an original large-format French advertising lithograph from the 1920s, printed by Affiches Edia, Paris. Designed by Paul Mohr (1890–1959), this rare beer poster is a premier example of early 20th-century French stone-lithography style and dramatic, “heroic” alcohol advertising.
The artwork features a powerful, classically inspired figure—draped in a vivid red toga—standing triumphantly beside a majestic lion. In one hand, he holds a frothing glass of Champigneulles beer aloft, highlighting the golden, premium character of the brew. Set against a dark, moody background, the saturated reds and warm golds create a striking visual impact suited to a 1920s French brasserie or street display.
Archival conservation: This is a linen-backed archival stone lithograph. Large Mohr lithographs are exceptionally scarce, and many posters attributed to him are believed to have only a very limited number of surviving copies. This piece has been stabilized and made ready for high-end framing while preserving the integrity of the original print.
About the beer: Champigneulles, founded in 1897 near Nancy, became one of France’s most significant beer producers. The “original Champigneulles” refers to its Grande Blonde. The poster’s bold composition reflects the mid-1920s shift toward a more muscular, graphic Art Deco influence.
Condition notes: archival linen backing with excellent overall presentation. Any fold marks have been professionally restored/flattened, with small spot touch-ups where needed, while maintaining a bright and well-preserved image.
