Small-format 3rd National Defense loan poster for France. A different look from most war posters asking for underwriting of the national war loans. French troops recapture Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, known for its marvelous cathedral. Alsace was taken by Germany after the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871). Hansi, a native of Alsace and a famous children’s book illustrator, lends his whimsical touch to the festive scene.
