This original Italian vintage poster for Pilota N°1 La Pista della Morte — the Italian release of the Japanese racing film Mahha 78 directed by Yasuhiko Kawano (1978) and billed in Italy for John Dobel with Linda Stayer — is a rare example of authentic vintage posters from the 1970s motorsport cycle. Offered among vintage posters for sale for racing and cult cinema collectors, this large-format Italian edition was printed by Offset Ferrari for Studio Paradiso and Stampa Fotocrom Roma, classic Roman printers of original Italian movie paper. Kawano’s Mahha 78, starring Chiaki Otomo, Linda Stayer and Akira Kurosu, captured Japan’s Formula fever with real track action, and the Italian distributor retitled it as a death-track thriller for European audiences.
Visually, the artwork is explosive and morbid: a head-on red Formula car fills the center, cockpit and nose cone merging into a translucent pink skull in the visor reflection, while Grand Prix single-seaters numbered 5 and 12 scream past in motion-blur yellows and oranges.
